The Defense Rests (or Take the Witness) is a 1934 American film directed by Lambert Hillyer and starring Jack Holt, Jean Arthur, and Nat Pendleton. The movie was produced in May 1934 and released on 15 July 1934.
Jack Holt’s sleazy defense attorney will stop at nothing when it comes to clearing his villainous defendants’ names. Disgusted by his morals and tactics, his assistant (Arthur) campaigns to change his ways, but as she falls in love with him only a series of compromises keeps her from the brink of legal and ethical peril.
