Cheryl Dunye (/ d uː n ˈ j eɪ /; born May 13, 1966) is a Liberian-American film director, producer, screenwriter, editor and actress. Dunye's work often concerns themes of race, sexuality, and gender, particularly issues relating to black lesbians.
Cheryl Dunye is a Liberian-born filmmaker who has made features, shorts and TV shows. She is known for The Watermelon Woman (1996), a documentary about a black lesbian filmmaker, and for directing episodes of The Equalizer, The Rookie: Feds and Lovecraft Country.
