When Jean fell pregnant Burns was reluctant to marry her but did apparently promise that he would stick by her.

  7. Jean Armour (1765–1834) was a Scottish woman who had nine children with the poet Robert Burns, whom she met in 1784 and married in 1788. She was the subject of several of his poems, such as 'To a Mountain Daisy' and 'To a Mouse', and is remembered for her singing and dancing skills.
