John Knudsen Northrop (November 10, 1895 – February 18, 1981) was an American aircraft industrialist and designer who founded the Northrop Corporation in 1939. His career began in 1916 as a draftsman for Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing Company (founded 1912).
John Knudsen Northrop. Co-invented a process for making monoplane fuselages and helped design the F-1 flying boat in 1916 while working for the Loughead Aircraft Company (later renamed Lockheed). Assumed the role of Chief Engineer at Lockheed in 1927 and built the Vega monoplane.

John Knudsen Northrop was an American aircraft designer, an early advocate of all-metal construction and the flying wing design. Northrop graduated from high school in 1913 and in 1916 became a draftsman and designer for the Lockheed (formerly Loughead) brothers, builders of seaplanes and sport.
