Jacques Bizet (10 July 1872 – 3 November 1922) was a French physician and businessman best known for his long friendship with novelist Marcel Proust. [1] He was the son of composer Georges Bizet , who died when the boy was three and before his works gained success. [2]

In 1872 Genevieve was delivered of a son, Jacques. Still buoyed by this happy event, Bizet completed the music for L'Arlésienne and it went into production. The score is one of Bizet's most subtle, intriguing and rewarding, though it is virtually never heard in its original context – as incidental music to a play which is where it works best.
