In the week before her appearance in Dublin, she had become the first woman of the century to win the Triple Crown at Wimbledon — the Mixed Doubles (with Bobby Riggs, USA), the Ladies’ Doubles (with Sarah Palfrey, USA), and the Ladies’ Singles titles. She was ranked world No. 1 in 1939.
