Bibliography. External links. Berthold Viertel (28 June 1885 – 24 September 1953) was an Austrian screenwriter and film director, known for his work in Germany, the UK and the US. Early career. Viertel was born in Vienna, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but later went to work in Berlin.
Berthold Viertel (* 28. Juni 1885 in Wien; † 24. September 1953 ebenda) war ein österreichischer Schriftsteller, Dramaturg, Essayist, Übersetzer und Film- und Theaterregisseur, der in Deutschland, den USA und Großbritannien wirkte. Sein Sohn war der Drehbuchautor Peter Viertel .
Berthold Viertel was born on 28 June 1885 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. He was a director and writer, known for Nora (1923), Die heilige Flamme (1931) and Seven Faces (1929). He was married to Elisabeth Neumann-Viertel, Salka Viertel and Grete Rouszicka. He died on 24 September 1953 in Vienna, Austria.

Biografie. Berthold Viertel wurde als erstes Kind von Anna Klausner (1861–1932) und Salomon Viertel (1860–1932) in der Mariahilfer Straße 96 geboren und wuchs in dieser Gegend auf. Seine aus Galizien zugezogenen Eltern etablierten sich hier im Möbelhandel.
