Jesse Appleton (November 17, 1772 – November 12, 1819) was the second president of Bowdoin College and the father of First Lady Jane Pierce.
19 de mai. de 2024 · Jesse Appleton, a Congregationalist minister, became Bowdoin's second president in 1807, serving in that office until his death, probably from tuberculosis, in 1819. His appointment came after ten years of service to a Hampton, New Hampshire parish.

APPLETON, Jesse, educator, was born at New Ipswich, N. H., Nov. 17, 1772, the fifth in descent from Samuel Appleton, the founder of Ipswich, Mass. He was graduated at Dartmouth college in 1792, licensed to preach in 1795, and from the first was regarded as a preacher of more than common power and promise.
