In the Beginning is a double album by flutist Hubert Laws released on the CTI and recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in 1974. The album was later reissued on CTI as two separate volumes entitled Then There Was Light .
Ronald Wayne Laws (born October 3, 1950) is an American jazz and smooth jazz saxophonist, and singer. He is the younger brother of jazz flutist Hubert Laws, jazz vocalist Eloise Laws and the older brother of Debra Laws.

Born in 1939 in Houston, Texas, Laws began playing flute in school. Several of his siblings also became musicians, notably tenor saxophonist Ronnie Laws, with whom Hubert made many recordings. He went on to become one of the top jazz flutists of his era, and also mastered the art of classical flute.
