  4. Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk was the 1st Duke of Suffolk and brother-in-law of the English king Henry VIII. He was a prominent courtier during his reign. His father, William Brandon, died fighting for Henry Tudor (later King Henry VII) in 1485.

His most extraordinary advance came in 1515 when, six weeks after the death of her husband Louis XII, he married Mary, queen of France and sister of Henry VIII.
