Francis Dashwood was born in 1708. He was the only son of Sir Francis Dashwood, 1st Baronet (c.1658–1724) and Mary Fane (1674–1710). The 1st Baronet was the sixth child of Alice Sleigh (1621–1693) and Francis Dashwood (1603–1683), a saddler, merchant and alderman of the City of London. Francis
