Aline et Valcour, ou le Roman philosophique est un roman épistolaire de D.-. A.-F de Sade, publié en 1793 . Sade a écrit cette œuvre de 1786 à 1789, alors qu’il était incarcéré à la Bastille. Ce roman est le premier des ouvrages de Sade à avoir été publiés sous son vrai nom.
Aline et Valcour; ou, Le Roman philosophique is an epistolary novel by the Marquis de Sade. It contrasts a brutal African kingdom, Butua, with a South Pacific island paradise known as Tamoé and led by the philosopher-king Zamé. Sade wrote the book while incarcerated in the Bastille in the 1780s.
A sprawling and intellectually sweeping work set in the French Revolution, Aline and Valcour combines genres and explores themes of libertinism, incest, utopia, and dystopia. It is the first English translation of the novel since 1795, with an introduction by John Galbraith.
