Ernesto I (Ernesto Frederico Paulo Jorge Nicolau), (16 de setembro de 1826 - 7 de fevereiro de 1908) foi um duque de Saxe-Altemburgo. Filho mais velho do duque Jorge de Saxe-Altemburgo e da sua esposa, a duquesa Maria Luísa de Mecklemburgo-Schwerin;viria a suceder ao seu pai em 1853.
Ernest I, called "Ernest the Pious" (25 December 1601 – 26 March 1675) was a duke of Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Altenburg. The duchies were later merged into Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. He was the ninth but sixth surviving son of Johann II, Duke of Saxe-Weimar, and Dorothea Maria of Anhalt.
Ernest I (German: Ernst Anton Karl Ludwig; 2 January 1784 – 29 January 1844) served as the last sovereign duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (as Ernest III) from 1806 to 1826 and the first sovereign duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha from 1826 to 1844. He was the father of Prince Albert, who was the husband of Queen Victoria.
Ernest I was the duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, who, after the ravages of the Thirty Years’ War, sought to rebuild and reform his country. An ardent Lutheran, Ernest allied himself with the Swedes from 1631, fighting in the battles of Lech, Nürnberg, Lützen, and Nördlingen.
