Watch on the Rhine is a 1943 American drama film directed by Herman Shumlin and starring Bette Davis and Paul Lukas. The screenplay by Dashiell Hammett is based on the 1941 play Watch on the Rhine by Lillian Hellman.
Bette Davis stars as the wife of a German anti-Nazi engineer who returns to the US with his family and faces a threat from a Romanian count. The film, based on a play by Dashiell Hammett and Lillian Hellman, won an Oscar for Paul Lukas as Best Actor.
