Shear formed a band called Reckless Sleepers with guitarist Jimmy Vivino (later of The Max Weinberg 7 and Conan O'Brien's Basic Cable Band), drummer Steve Holley (formerly of Wings), and bassist Brian Stanley. Their album, Big Boss Sounds!, was meant as a collaborative project.

Jules Shear is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His discography consists of 12 studio albums, 2 compilations, 2 EPs, and 8 singles. In addition to his work with Funky Kings, Jules and the Polar Bears, Reckless Sleepers, and Shear Shazar, his compositions have been recorded by many other artists.
Shear then formed the Reckless Sleepers with the Cars’ Elliot Easton. In 1988, without Easton, the Reckless Sleepers released their sole album for IRS, Big Boss Sounds; it failed to make much impact, though “If We Never Meet Again” from the album was later covered by Roger McGuinn.
