Steve J. Morse (born July 28, 1954) is an American guitarist, best known as the founder of the Dixie Dregs and as the guitarist for Deep Purple from 1994 to 2022. Morse has also enjoyed a successful solo career and was a member of the group Kansas in the mid-1980s.

This is the Michael Manring album to own. On this release he sheds the Windham Hill chains (although it was released on Windham Hill's subsidiary label, High Street), and plays some heavy jazz rock fusion. And he has some high powered musicians backing him up, most notably Steve Morse (The Dixie Dregs, Kansas, etc.).

Steve Morse has been involved with some pretty good bands in his career, most notably the DIXIE DREGS. Sure he played with KANSAS and DEEP PURPLE but those were long after their glory days. This is Steve's first solo album released in 1984.

Back in 1981, readers voted Dixie Dregs’ Industry Standard the year’s Best Guitar Album, while Morse himself received Best Overall Guitarist, an accolade he won for five years in a row, at which point he entered the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats.
S teve Morse is one of very few guitarists who have an instantly identifiable sound. His singular approach involves alternate picked arpeggios, creative harmonics and highly-complex chord structures. The combination of that and his prolific and inventive compositions have yielded a storied and diverse 45-year career.
