200 Balloons was released as the b-side on the single Batdance, the first single from Prince’s album Batman, the companion album to the hit movie Batman. In 1993, it was included as the second track on The B-Sides compilation (included as the third and final disc on The Hits / The B-Sides).

This song uses the LinnDrum, the successor of the Linn LM-1 usually utilized by Prince, at least for the clap sound. The phrase "get your house in order" appears as a sample in 200 Balloons, possibly sung by Mavis Staples, and reduced to "house" on Batdance.
