The Military School of Realengo (Portuguese: Escola Militar do Realengo) was the training institution for officers of the Brazilian Army from 1913 until its transfer to Resende in 1944, originating what is now the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras (AMAN).

This thesis examines the influence of the military, particularly the Military School in the period 1912 to 1944, on the urban form of Realengo, located on the suburb of Rio de Janeiro.

A imensa maioria dos 750 alunos do Realengo provinha dos colégios militares de Fortaleza, Barbacena, Rio e Porto Alegre, e, após esses cinco anos de disciplina severa, em certa medida já estava impregnada da índole castrense. Na escola, pois, sentia-se no seu elemento.
No presente artigo pretendemos estudar a Escola Militar do Realengo (EMR) sob a perspectiva da relação entre juventude e educação militar. A educação militar, em particular a oferecida na EMR, apresentava como seu principal objetivo a formação do oficial do Exército e de sua identidade militar.
