Carl Mayer Freiherr von Rothschild (24 April 1788 – 10 March 1855) was a Frankfurt-born banker in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the founder of the Neopolitan branch of the prominent Rothschild family.

Mayer Carl von Rothschild was born in Frankfurt on 5 August 1820, the eldest of the sons of Carl Mayer von Rothschild (1788-1855) founder of Naples branch of the family business. He eventually took a controlling role in the management of the Frankfurt House after the death of his uncle Amschel in 1855.
Carl Mayer von Rothschild was born in Frankfurt on 24 April 1788 in his father's recently-purchased house, the Grünes Schild. He was the fourth of Mayer Amschel Rothschild's sons, and while not the most gifted of his brothers, he was nevertheless totally absorbed by the family business.

In 1846 Baron Mayer Carl von Rothschild bought house number 15 and substantially had it refurbished and extended by the architect Friedrich Rumpf, thus giving it its current appearance. Some of the historical rooms from that era have been preserved.
It was founded by Carl Mayer von Rothschild (1788–1855), who was sent to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies from Frankfurt in 1821. Endogamy within the family was an essential part of the Rothschild strategy in order to ensure control of their wealth remained in the family's hands.
