Trevelyan, Sir George Otto (1838–1928), 2nd baronet, historian and chief secretary for Ireland, was born 20 July 1838 at Rothley Temple, Leicestershire, only son of Sir Charles Edward Trevelyan (qv), assistant secretary to the treasury 1846–52, and his first wife, Hannah More (d. 1872), sister of Lord Macaulay (d. 1859).
The Trevilian, later Trevelyan Baronetcy, of Nettlecombe in the County of Somerset, was created in the Baronetage of England on 24 January 1662 for George Trevilian. He was the son of George Trevilian, a member of the Somerset gentry and a supporter of the Royalist cause in the Civil War.
