The Paulet affair, also known as British Hawaii, was the unofficial five-month 1843 occupation of the Hawaiian Islands by British naval officer Captain Lord George Paulet, of HMS Carysfort. It was ended by the arrival of American warships sent to defend Hawaii's independence.

Sir George Paulet (1553–1608), also known as Pawlett, Pawlet, or Powlet, was an English soldier and administrator. He served as governor of Derry in Ireland. His arrogant and insolent behaviour caused O'Doherty's Rebellion in 1608. Paulet was killed by the rebels during the Burning of Derry.
In June 1562 George Paulet was one of five Royal Commissioners appointed to survey the fortifications in Jersey, redress problems with its administration of justice and reform its grammar schools. He was an elder of the Town Church when it was established as the island's first Reformed Church.
