Harry Frederick Ernest "Fred" Whitlam (3 April 1884 – 8 December 1961) was Australia's Crown Solicitor from 1936 to 1949, and a pioneer of international human rights law in Australia. He was the father of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, and had a great influence on his son's values and interests.
Harry Frederick Ernest (Fred) Whitlam (1884-1961), Commonwealth crown solicitor, was born on 3 April 1884 at Prahran, Melbourne, eldest of five children of Victorian-born parents Henry Hugh Gough Whitlam, clerk, and his wife Janet Turnbull, née Steele.

And of course it was Australian Foreign Minister “Doc” Evatt who, as President of the UN General Assembly, oversaw the adoption of the Universal Declaration.
