Prince Johann of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (5 December 1825 – 27 May 1911) was the ninth of the ten children of Friedrich Wilhelm, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and Princess Louise Caroline of Hesse-Kassel. He was named after his ancestor John II, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg.
Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, the fourth son of Duke Friedrich of Glücksburg, was recognized in the London Protocol of 1852 as successor to the childless King Frederick VII of Denmark. He became King of Denmark as Christian IX on 15 November 1863.
Christoph Prinz zu Schleswig-Holstein (22 August 1949 – 27 September 2023) was the head of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (commonly known as the House of Glücksburg) and, by agnatic primogeniture, of the entire House of Oldenburg between 1980 and 2023.

So, after the death of his father, Duke Wilhelm, in 1831, Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg was called to Copenhagen, where the King of Denmark himself took care of his further upbringing and education.

Wappen. Die Mitglieder des Haues Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg verfügen seit der Gründung dieser herzoglichen Linie durch Philipp, dem zweitjüngsten Sohn von Herzog Johann dem Jüngeren, dem Erbauer des Schlosses Glücksburg, über ein Wappen. Seit 1559 führten nahezu alle Herzöge von Schleswig und Holstein dieses gleiche Wappen.
