    The film was originally intended to be a large-scale epic holiday release similar to Mary Poppins, but after its premiere, it was shortened from its two and a half-hour length (while the liner notes on the soundtrack reissue in 2002claims it was closer to three hours) to a more manageable (to movie theaters) two hours.
