James Sarsfield, 2nd Earl of Lucan (1693-1719), was a French-born Jacobite of Irish descent. He was the son of Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan and his wife Honora Burke.

History. Patrick Sarsfield was one of the senior commanders of James VII & II (deposed in 1688) in battles in Ireland with William of Orange which determined the latter's takeover with his co-regnant wife, Mary II of England, of the English, Scottish and Irish thrones (the Glorious Revolution and First Jacobite Wars).
The Sarsfields had almost continuous possession of Lucan Castle, as it was then, and the lands up to 1718, when James Sarsfield, the second Earl of Lucan, died without an heir. The title died with him. His father was Patrick Sarsfield (1650-1693), first Earl of Lucan.
Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan (c. 1655 – 21 August 1693) was an Irish soldier and Jacobite. Killed at Landen in 1693 while serving in the French army , he is now best remembered as an Irish patriot and military hero.
