  5. Anderson's institution. When the University was first created as Anderson's Institution in 1796, Thomas Garnett was appointed as Professor of Physics and Philosophy, and Lecturer in Chemistry. He gave his first lecture on Natural Philosophy and Chemistry on October 26, the same year.

  6. Anderson's Institution renamed Anderson's University in 1828. Anderson's University renamed the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College in 1887. As well as our origins in Anderson's institution, our Faculty of Business has its origins in the Glasgow Athenaeum.
