The eighth Baronet assumed the surname of Hamilton before that of Dalrymple. The tenth Baronet was Lord-Lieutenant of East Lothian from 1987 to 2001. Hew Dalrymple, grandson of the first Baronet, was created a baronet in 1815 (see Dalrymple baronets ).

A new chapter for Leuchie. In the 1960s, Sir Hew Hamilton-Dalrymple, the 10th Baronet, and his wife, Lady Anne-Louise, took the decision to move into a smaller house in the Leuchie grounds with their four sons, leasing the main house to an order of La Sagesse nuns at a peppercorn rent.
