Barbara Olive Skelton (26 June 1916 – 27 January 1996) was an English memoirist, novelist and socialite.
Barbara Skelton was a celebrated femme fatale who had affairs with writers, artists and a king, and wrote novels and memoirs. She was known for her beauty, candour, rudeness and boredom, and died in 1996.
In rural England in the late 1600s, Caroline invites her beautiful friend Barbara to attend her marriage with wealthy landowner and local magistrate Sir Ralph Skelton. But the scheming Barbara soon has Skelton entranced, and it is Barbara who becomes Lady Skelton, as Caroline looks on.

Barbara Skelton (1916-1996) was a writer and literary femme fatale. She had many lovers and three husbands. She wrote two novels, a volume of short stories and two brilliant autobiographies. Her entire oeuvre is being reissued in Faber Finds.
