Star of Solidarity (Italy) Navy Commendation Medal. Eugene Willford "Gene" Markey (December 11, 1895 – May 1, 1980) was an American writer, producer, screenwriter, and highly decorated naval officer.
Gene Markey was a successful screenwriter who married three Hollywood stars: Joan Bennett, Hedy Lamarr, and Myrna Loy. He also owned Calumet Farm, a powerful racing stable that won three Kentucky Derbies, but faced financial troubles.
Gene Markey was a writer and producer of musicals and comedies, married to four actresses, and a horse racing enthusiast. He died in 1980 in Miami Beach, Florida, and was buried in Kentucky.
