From his birth until the death of his oldest brother Francis, Dauphin of France (Francis I's eldest son), in 1536, Charles was known as the Duke of Angoulême. [1] .
Charles of Orléans (24 November 1394 – 5 January 1465) was Duke of Orléans from 1407, following the murder of his father, Louis I, Duke of Orléans. He was also Duke of Valois , Count of Beaumont-sur-Oise and of Blois , Lord of Coucy , and the inheritor of Asti in Italy via his mother Valentina Visconti .
The second dukedom of Orléans was created in 1392 by Charles VI of France for his younger brother Louis. His role as leading figure in court, regent for his brother during his madness and wealthy landlord, as well as head of the Armagnac party, permitted his descendant to maintain a prominent role in French politics.
Charles, duc d’Orléans (born November 24, 1394, Paris, France—died January 4, 1465, Amboise) was the last, and one of the greatest, of the courtly poets of France, who during exile in England also earned a reputation for his poems in English. He was the son of Louis, duc d’Orléans (brother of Charles VI of France).
