When Johann Wilhelm Duke of Saxe-Jena was born on 28 March 1675, in Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Germany, his father, Herzog Bernhard von Sachsen-Jena, was 37 and his mother, Prinses Marie Charlotte de la Trémouille, was 43. He died on 4 November 1690, in his hometown, at the age of 15.
Saxe-Jena. The Duchy of Saxe-Jena was one of the Saxon Duchies held by the Ernestine line of the Wettin Dynasty. Established in 1672 for Bernhard, fourth son of Wilhelm, Duke of Saxe-Weimar, Saxe-Jena was reincorporated into Saxe-Weimar on the extinction of Bernhard's line in 1690.
When Bernhard died, at the age of 39, was succeeded by his only surviving son Johann Wilhelm, born of his first wife after their reconciliation in 1675. Marie Elisabeth obtained her Morgengabe , not without some difficulty.
