Taneyev's music is characterized by its rich harmonies and virtuosic piano writing. He composed several operas, orchestral works, chamber music, and vocal and piano pieces. Some of his notable works include his String Quartet No. 1, Op. 25, and his Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 30.
Alexander Sergeyevich Taneyev was a Russian state official and composer of the late Romantic era, specifically of the nationalist school. Among his better-known works were three string quartets, believed to have been composed between 1898–1900.
Russian composer. Born in St. Petersburg in 1850 and died in the same city in 1918. He was the son of a second cousin of the more famous composer Sergei Taneyev, though his own father's name was also Sergei and he was a great music lover and amateur composer.
