Anne Cecil. Anne de Vere (née Cecil ), Countess of Oxford (5 December 1556 – 5 June 1588) was the daughter of the statesman William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, chief adviser to Queen Elizabeth I of England, and the translator Mildred Cooke. In 1571 she became the first wife of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford.

Anne was the couple’s second daughter, but her older sister, did not survive infancy. The Cecils were an enlightened family and educated their daughters to a high degree.

Lady Anne Cecil (1612-1637), was the first wife of Algernon Percy, 10th Earl of Northumberland (1602-1668). She was also the older sister of Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire (1619-1689), whose enormous bequest of 1690 to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter (1648-1700), so enriched the Burghley Collections.
