Elisabetta di Sasso-Ruffo was born in the year 1886, daughter of Fabrizio Ruffo and Natalia Alexandrovna Mescherskaya. She was married in the year 1918 to Andrey Aleksandrovitsj Romanov, they had 2 children.
Elisabetta, from the noble house of Ruffo di Calabria, was a cousin of Queen Paola of Belgium. After Elisabetta became pregnant, the couple married on 12 June 1918 in the family chapel at Ai-Todor in the presence of his family, including his grandmother the Dowager Empress.
