Richard Woodville, 1st Earl Rivers KG (1405 – 12 August 1469), also Wydeville, was the father of Elizabeth Woodville and father-in-law of Edward IV.

4 de abr. de 2024 · Richard Woodville, 1st Earl Rivers (died Aug. 12, 1469, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, Eng.) was the father-in-law of the Yorkist king Edward IV of England (reigned 1461–70, 1471–83). Nobles opposed to Rivers initiated the uprising that temporarily drove Edward into exile in 1470.

Richard Woodville, 1st Earl Rivers. Richard Woodville (c. 1410-1469) was a knight in the service of John Duke of Bedford and married Bedford’s widow, Jacquetta. He was made Baron Rivers in 1448 and despite fighting for the Lancastrians at Towton had become one of Edward IV’s counsellors by 1463.

The marriage of his eldest daughter, Elizabeth, widow of Sir John Grey of Groby, to Edward on the 1st of May 1464, secured the fortunes of his family. Rivers was appointed Treasurer on the 4th of March 1466, and a little later created Earl.
