Chapter 8 was a Detroit soul group of the 1970s and 1980s formed by Derek Dirckson, Michael J. Powell and David Washington. Anita Baker was featured as lead vocalist on their first, self-titled album on Ariola in 1979, produced by Michael and Derek.

Chapter 8 is the debut studio album by the Detroit, Michigan-based group Chapter 8. It was released in 1979. It was their only album to include lead vocals from Anita Baker before she went on to solo stardom.
This Detroit group is best known as the band that helped launch Anita Baker's career. The original group was founded by Michael Powell and David Washington in 1972. They backed the Detroit Emeralds until Powell and Washington added vocalist Rick Means and Carolyn Crawford. Crawford was later replaced by Barbara Love.
