14 de mai. de 2024 · Shrine of Remembrance 90th Anniversary. On 11 November 2024, the Shrine of Remembrance will be marking the 90th anniversary of its opening. In 1934, Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester and son of King George V, officially opened the Shrine before a crowd of 300,000 people—nearly a third of Melbourne's population.

A visit to the Shrine is a memorable experience for the whole family, and includes a unique blend of museum, landscape and memorial. Admission is free. Updated 2 May 2024. The Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance was built in 1934 as a solemn tribute to the Victorians who served in World War I, envisioned as a place of reflection and national pride. Its design, influenced by classical architecture, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by service members.
15 de mai. de 2024 · The Shrine of Remembrance website states in its History section: The Shrine of Remembrance was created to meet the needs of a grieving community after the extensive loss of lives in the First World War (1914 –18). 114,000 Victorians enlisted in the First World War. Of the 89,000 of them who served abroad 19,000 were killed.
