Philip Jones Griffiths (18 February 1936 – 19 March 2008) was a Welsh photojournalist known for his coverage of the Vietnam War . Biography.
Born in Rhuddlan, Wales, Philip Jones Griffiths studied pharmacy in Liverpool and worked in London while photographing part-time for the Manchester Guardian. In 1961, he became a full-time freelancer for the London-based Observer. He covered the Algerian War in 1962, then moved to Central Africa.
Biography. Philip Jones Griffiths had a happy childhood as a native Welsh speaker in rural north Wales. He was born, one of three boys, in Rhuddlan, Denbighshire, played prop forward in the rugby team, and was educated at local schools.
