I think the name Wellington become gradualy the name that he was called after becoming a member of the house of Lords in August 1809. Same thing goes for Robert Jenkinson (the British PM between 1812-1827) who was known as "Lord Liverpool" or simply "Liverpool" since he was Count of Liverpool.
