He created, or co-created, such enduring characters as Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, the Hulk, the New Gods, and hundreds of others stretching back to the earliest days of the medium.

Thor is an adaptation of the deity of the same name from Norse mythology, and many aspects of Thor's character are based on Norse myth.
