28 de mai. de 2024 · Sylvia Plath, a renowned poet and novelist, had two children named Frieda and Nicholas. Tragically, both of her parents suffered from mental illness and ultimately took their own lives. And in a sad turn of events, Nicholas Hughes, Sylvia Plath’s son, also ended his own life at the age of 47.
Há 2 dias · Although I had read them in Plath’s Collected Poems, and later, as part of Ariel: The Restored Edition, Frieda Hughes’s attempt to publish her mother’s collection as Sylvia had intended it, these poems had often felt disembodied to me.
24 de mai. de 2024 · Also the poet’s daughter Frieda Hughes has made it quite clear in her own writings how distasteful she finds it that her mother’s life was seen so much through the prism of its ending. The last manuscript that lay on Plath’s desk after she died was a collection of poems she called Ariel.
