While you still receive marks for any correct answers in the exam, your certificate only gives you a score whose value depends on the marks as well as the exam you take.

Therefore, the Cambridge English scale makes it a lot easier to compare exam results even across different exams. The results of the FCE exam are reported in a certificate that looks like the one below.
