Há 4 dias · The Cistercian abbey of Woburn was founded in the year 1145, under the patronage of Hugh de Bolebec. It was a colony sent from the abbey of Fountains in Yorkshire, and its first abbot, Alan, was a monk of that house.
Há 3 dias · Woburn Abbey, the seat of the Duke of Bedford, stands to the south-west of the village of Woburn, on the site of the Cistercian house founded by Hugh de Bolebec in 1145. There is no trace of the original monastic buildings remaining, but a local tradition states that the present house stands exactly on the site of the old cloister.

One of his grants to this abbey is dated 1140, and was given with the consent of his sons Oliver and John. The latter, who succeeded his father, also granted lands to Kirkstead Abbey in 1162.
