History. The Royal Ballet owes its existence to the vision of Dame Ninette de Valois, dancer, choreographer and entrepreneur, who assembled a small company and school, the Vic-Wells Ballet, and, in 1931, persuaded Lilian Baylis to provide it with a home at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre in North London.

27 de mai. de 2024 · Ninette de Valois, a dancer with Diaghilev, approached Baylis about establishing a ballet company and school at Sadler‘s Wells. Baylis agreed, and the Vic-Wells Ballet (later the Sadler‘s Wells Ballet) was born, with de Valois as its first director.
