16 de mai. de 2024 · Sanborn’s 1991 album, Another Hand, marked a radical shift in musical direction, as he released a straight-ahead jazz album that featured Bill Frisell on guitar, Charlie Haden, bass, Mulgrew Miller piano, and Jack DeJohnette, drums. Hal Willner produced eight of the ten tracks, and Miller, two.

Hal was kind, thoughtful, aggravating, and almost always right. He had an eidetic memory and could pull who played what on which cut of which album out of thin air.

14 de mai. de 2024 · Still, it’s hard not to marvel at the gonzo-aesthete generosity of Night Music, which was not only a product of Hal Willner’s eclectic mind but also a natural fit for Sanborn’s curiosity. As he succinctly told the Times in 1989: “MTV is one avenue; this is another.”
