24 de mai. de 2024 · From 1560 to 1638 the Crown leased out the manor for lives or terms of years. In 1560 Queen Elizabeth granted the manor for life to Anne Seymour, duchess of Somerset and widow of Protector Somerset, for £13 6s. 8d. a year and payment of the bailiffs and steward's wages.
27 de mai. de 2024 · The manor was held by the Crown until 1547 when it was granted to Edward Seymour, duke of Somerset (d. 1552). It was briefly resumed by the Crown in 1550. Seymour's son Edward, later earl of Hertford, successfully claimed some of his late father's lands and was confirmed in possession of Meare in 1582.
