Delicate yet deep, 2015’s Carrie & Lowell once again proved that some of the most personal art is often the best kind. Following 2010’s heavily electronic The Age of Adz , Sufjan Stevens returned to his indie-folk roots, mining thematic inspiration from the loss of his mother in 2012 and his relationship with his stepfather (both are name-dropped in the title and adorn the album’s cover).
