Há 4 dias · Designed by Italian architect Pietro Avoscani, the Khedivial Opera House was opened on the occasion of the inauguration of the Suez Canal. The old Opera house was located in the Azbakiya district in central Cairo. In 1971, a fire tragically burned down the opera building completely.
26 de mai. de 2024 · In 1870 Giuseppe Verdi was approached with the request to write an opera for the new Khedivial Opera House in Cairo, erected on the orders of Isma'il Pasha, the viceroy of Egypt. At first the composer initially refused the offer despite a hefty fee.
