For over 200 years, this great metropolitan mansion has been known colloquially as ‘Number 1 London’, because it was the first house encountered after passing the tollgates at the top of Knightsbridge.

It was executed by Sir Richard Westmacott in 1822. The figure is said to have been copied from one of the antique statues on the Monte Cavallo at Rome. The statue appears as if in the act of striking.
