'Star Trek The Motion Picture' was as pompous as it's title, and a TREMENDOUS let-down. The Wrath of Khan fixed all the problems. A villian you could kill, top-flight effects, and the thing we ALL had wanted for years - the Enterprise in a space battle.

It’s a must-watch for any Star Trek fan! The movie’s success led to a trilogy and continues to inspire future Star Trek stories, showcasing the enduring friendship between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.
To help promote the theatrical release of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, they released The Original Series episode that set up the movie (“Space Seed”) as a standalone VHS tape. The front of that tape even promoted the release as “The Episode That Inspired Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”
